“We are all broken. We have all sinned. We have all missed the mark. We are all struggling with a hurt, habit or hang-up.” – Founder John Baker
What is Celebrate Recovery?
CR is a ministry born out of the heart of Saddleback Church (Rick Warren) and over the past twenty-five years, this recovery curriculum has spread worldwide and has been published and translated into several languages.
The purpose of “Celebrate Recovery” is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the 12 Steps and 8 Recovery Principles. This experience allows us to ‘be changed.” We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God’s grace in solving our lives’ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power –Jesus Christ!
Many people are misinformed about who this program is for, believing that it is only for those who have addictive behaviors and struggles. What makes this recovery program so unique is that it also offers healing to those who are experiencing grief, depression, sexual abuse, loneliness. It is not uncommon for a “Newcomer” (first-time guest) to express that they aren’t even sure why they are there, they just weren’t happy with their present condition but they heard that Celebrate Recovery was a safe place where they could find acceptance, friendship and no judgment.
Meeting at River Christian Church Friday Evenings at 7 pm, the agenda includes Large Group Meeting & Small Groups. On the first Friday of every month, meals are provided at 6 pm prior to the 7 pm meeting. The Large Group Meeting begins with worship and consists of either a teaching or a testimony while the Small Group’s purpose is to reflect on the principles discussed. An offering is received at each meeting.
We have a wonderful group of faithful and committed volunteers. Without these volunteers, CR could never happen. Duties range from greeters, food preparation, food serving, food clean-up, teaching, sharing testimonies, leading small groups, sponsors, PowerPoint presentations, worship, sound, set-up, break down, material preparation and marketing. They all come with willing hearts and all exhibit great team work and are willing to step up to the challenge of the needs of this ministry even at the cost of bringing them out of their comfort zone.
While our hope is that CR will grow in participants and volunteers, CR is not about the numbers, it’s about one person at a time, being healed one day at a time, through Jesus, our Higher Power.
We meet every Friday with Large Group Meeting beginning at 7 pm. On the first Friday of every month, meals are provided at 6 pm prior to the 7 pm meeting. All are welcome and are invited to join us!
